Co-Stars

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter; Harry Potter Series)

Are you looking forward to filming the romance scenes in HBP?
Yes, I am! Particularly as Bonnie looks absolutely stunning tonight!! [turns to look]
[laughs] Yes, we’ve been chatting to her!
” – She looks absolutely amazing tonight!! So, yeah, I’m very, very excited about that!”
- OotP London Premiere [2007]

Dan, are you looking forward to making kissy-kissy with Bonnie Wright?
Yes! I think that will be great. I saw Bonnie at the premiere the other day, she looked like Lily Cole. She just looked stunning! So, you know, very excited about that. Yeah!
- OotP LA Premiere [2007]

“Bonnie is loads and loads of fun and amazing and fantastic!!!”
– On meeting with a Bonnie fan during the Equus Press Conference in NY [2008]

“Well obviously – to kiss the beautiful Bonnie Wright is not a particularly difficult or challenging thing to do as an actor.”
- HBP London Premiere [2009]

“Poor Bonnie who had this kiss with me, I saw the film again a couple nights ago at the premiere and I really watched it, and, my God, my lips are like the lips of a horse, distending away independently away from my face, trying to encompass the lower half of hers. So I apologize to Bonnie.”
[laughter] “I didn’t notice don’t worry.”
“Just disagree thank you!” [laughs]
- HBP Press Conference in NY [2009]

“I’ve known Bonnie – even though she’s obviously stunningly beautiful, as you have seen tonight – I’ve known her since she was 9 and I was 11. So that was kind of weird at first. But we got used to it. We got over it pretty quickly.”
- New York HBP Premiere [2009]

“Bonnie’s a lovely girl and – and very beautiful! – and so it was hardly a hardship!”
- HBP Press Junket in NY [2009]

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley; Harry Potter Series)

“Dan’s a funny guy, so I’m sure he’ll make her feel comfortable when it comes time for the scene.”
- HBP Interview; On Dan and Bonnie kissing [2009]

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy; Harry Potter Series)

“It’s fun to play the bad guy on the set, but then you have to accept that in real life some fans will be scared of you. Everyone thinks Daniel, Bonnie, Emma and Rupert are sympathetic, but I was once booed at when I went to give out some Childrens Award. Well, that means I played my character convincingly. If you can frighten children, you’re doing good as an actor. Fans under the age of 7 don’t trust me at all. When they’re older, they realise I’m not as mean as Draco in real life.”
- HBP DVD Launch [2009]

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom; Harry Potter Series)

We had another interview with somebody who saw the movie, who saw the fourth film, and they told us that you and Ginny have quite a moment.
[laughing] Yeah! Yeah, I won’t go into that one, but it’s pretty cool! I really, really enjoyed learning to dance. And Ginny was good. Huh, Ginny… Bonnie who plays Ginny, she was great! She picked up a lot faster than me. I don’t know whether she’s danced before, but she’s very good. And it was good fun; I enjoyed it!
- Leaky Interview with Melissa Anelli during GoF [2005]

I don’t know what it is. I don’t know whether we’re all just a bit older or what, but this year, everyone has just got on so much better with everyone else. I mean, not that we didn’t get on before, but it’s just like all the friendships have been tightened and everyone’s been doing so much. I think it is because we’re a little older and can sort of see each other outside of the film more, and…yeah. It’s just everyone’s been getting a lot closer! In regards to the six, I’ve been a lot closer with Dan, Rupert, and Emma, and umm me and Bonnie!
- Leaky Cauldron Podcast for OotP [2006]

Katie Leung (Cho Chang; Harry Potter Series)

Her best friend on set is Bonnie Wright who plays Ginny Weasley, ironically the girl who displaces Cho in Harry Potter’s affections. “Everyone expects us to be rivals, but we hang out a lot!” muses Katie.
- Evening Standard Interview [2007]

Relative newcomer Katie says it is “unbelievable” how mature her younger co-stars Bonnie and Evanna are. “It’s just really strange to think Bonnie and Evanna are four and five years younger than me, because we do get on so well and we do have lots to talk about,” she told us.
- inthennews.co.uk Interview [2007]

“It’s a very complex relationship [Harry and Cho's]. I mean, I think Cho does like Harry, but at the same time she’s still mourning over Cedric. And they both know that, so it’s difficult for them to strike up any sort of relationship or take it any further. Umm, but, no, it’s very sweet while it lasts, definitely! But it was ill-fated – and everyone knew he was going to end up with Ginny!! Which I’m really pleased about! Because I love Bonnie!! [laughs]”
- OotP London Premiere [2007]

Katie Leung, who will be reprising her role as Cho Chang in the sixth installment of the series, told us she was sure that “Bonnie would play the part of Harry’s new love flawlessly” and, far from feeling sad about her character not being as important in the wizard’s love life, she said “she was very grateful for the opportunity she had been given”, because even though she wasn’t an actress she managed to beat 3000 other girls to the part. “The famous kissing scene in the last movie (the Order of the Phoenix) was very hard to shoot because we had to repeat it over and over again and there were cameras at every angle, and everyone wanted to see it. But my character has played her part and played it well, and now it’s Ginny’s turn, just as it happens in the books. I think Ginny deserves Harry’s love, and I think Bonnie has done an excellent job playing her!”, said Leung.
- Spanish Interview [2007]

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood; Harry Potter Series)

Which actors / actresses have you gelled with the most?
Katie and Bonnie and Ryan, probably the most (they play Cho Chang, Ginny Weasley, and Slightly Creepy Boy respectively). Also Afshan, Shefali, Nick and Matthew (Padma and Parvati Patil, Somewhat doubtful Boy, and Neville). We had some lovely times during filming, they made it fun!
- Drogheda Independent Interview [2007]

“It was very unreal, you know – because I couldn’t believe that they were all real. You know when I met them – I remember meeting Bonnie and Katie and I kept like – wanting to poke them to see if they were real. And it was like wow, you are real.”
- OotP DVD Interview [2007]

Unlike in school when you only have to be friends with those from your own class, I find it is much easier to find friends on a big set with so many different people. But I am mostly together with Bonnie, and Katie – who is playing Cho Chang – and then there are always new people who come along who you can be friends with.
- Kino.dk Interview during the HBP Denmark Press Junket [2009]

“Dan is work work work, whereas I get some lazy time. So I’m much better friends with Matt and Bonnie and all them.”
- HBP Ireland Premiere [2009]

Out of all the actors on Harry Potter, who have you enjoyed working with the most?
I would have to say I’ve enjoyed most working with the people I have become closest to. You hear of a lot of hierarchy and people being unwilling to engage with others because they are so concentrated on their work and personally I really admire those people who can strike a nice balance of being a nice, friendly and relaxed presence whilst also being talented, hard-working actors. I think it is essential to keep your feet on the ground and make an effort to work WITH people because actors are trying to portray real people. I used to look up to people like Emma and Bonnie and Matt and found it hard to imagine myself fitting in with them. But they extended the hand of friendship and bridged the gap and eventually I was able to see myself as one of the cast. I like to feel comfortable and relaxed with the other actors because that way we can work off one another and it doesn’t have to be acting, you can just be. It’s like when you’re young and you play pretend with a friend. You don’t have that annoying voice of doubt that wonders what the other person is thinking of you and prevents you from playing with whatever character you are. You believe you and your friend are those characters so it is easy to crawl into their skin and just be. You can forget yourself.
- Interview with EvannaLynchFans.net [2009]

Afshan Azad (Padma Patil; Harry Potter Series)

Who did you find yourself becoming close friends with while filming GoF? What about OotP?
Everybody really! In GoF I became best buds with Dan, Bonnie, Katie. All of us are a family really!
- Letter to a Fan [2004]

Now in this film, I was gonna say – there’s lots of romance! I mean were you teasing everybody on the set?!
Well, I’m really good friends with Bonnie and Dan – so when it came to their kissing scene we were all just like “Ooooh!!!!!” you know?! [laughs] But it was fine you know, Bonnie’s like one of my best friends, so is Dan. It just comes with the job doesn’t it?
- HBP London Premiere [2009]

Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley)

“Dan and Rupert can be [jokers], it’s usually them. If there’s anything going on you can usually look at them or Bonnie [Wright; Ginny Weasley] as well.”
- Interview [2003]

And Rupert and Bonnie?
“Oh, they’re just wonderful! All of them! [snip]…Bonnie…I think has surprised us all! Umm..she’s certainly surprised me! I mean when we – when we first met her on the first film when she had what those two words – I think on Platform 9 and 3/4 – back then we obviously didn’t know what was going to happen to the character of Ginny and I think she’s – she’s done marvelously with it. And she’s still – I mean – when I saw her I thought, yeah yeah that’s – that’s Ginny! She’s just grown perfectly into the role, definitely!”
- Snitchseeker Interview [2010]

James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley; Harry Potter Series)

“She’s outgoing and mature.”
- On Bonnie’s personality. [2003]

Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan; Harry Potter Series)

“I am not going out with Bonnie. She IS a good friend & we happened to have some photos taken together at The New York Premiere, but thats all!”
- Devon Murray (On his Official Website) [2005]

Tolga Safer (Karkaroff’s Aide; Harry Potter Series)

You mentioned the dance rehearsals, of which we’ve heard many stories…so be honest, how many feet did you step on?
In total I stepped on approximately 16 feet. I don’t think I was bad to be honest but you would have to ask my partner, Alison that question. Bonnie and I were partners in a dance rehearsal, it was hilarious, we laughed non-stop, though our dance tutor did say we were one of the better dancers.
- GoF London Premiere [2005]

Douglas Booth (Sean; Geography of a Hapless Heart)

You seem to be spending time with a lot of beautiful British actresses at the mo. First Emma Watson for Burberry and now Daisy Lowe and Bonnie Wright for short flick Geography of the Hapless Heart. Not bad huh?
“Daisy and Bonnie are both fantastic and we’ve become friends. They are really, really great girls. It’s great to get to know other people in the (acting) scene.”
- InStyle Interview [2010]

Directors & Producers

When we were casting the first film, I was so overwhelmed by the process of finding our Harry Potter and Ginny was such a small part that I really hadn’t considered how much acting Bonnie was going to have to do in the second film, but she is absolutely amazing. Ginny is a challenging and demanding role and she does it beautifully.
- Chris Columbus (Director; Harry Potter) [2009]

Filming [Geography of the Hapless Heart: Sweat] went fantastically well and Bonnie was both highly professional and a complete pleasure to work with. Bonnie played the role of Mia beautifully and with a maturity that did great justice to the character.
- Alexandra Billington (Writer; Geography of the Hapless Heart) [2010]

We just finished shooting ‘Sweat’ a few days back, Bonnie gave a stellar performance.
- Peter Ogunsalu (Producer; Geography of the Hapless Heart) [2010]

Magazines & Newspapers

“Finally, Bonnie is adorable. A fresh face, appropriately dressed in a white polo shirt tucked into skinny jeans and flats, hair a mousy brown, is polite and unassuming, walks with the gait of a girl still growing into her body, without the insolent boredom of an adolescent or the desperate need to impress of a young adult. If she wants it, I hope she becomes a big, big star.”
- Lainey Gossip, OotP DVD Launch [2007]

“The youngsters are all pretty impressive. But Ron (the ever-fine Rupert Grint) is never given enough to do, and while Hermione (Emma Watson) is as earnest as ever, it is Bonnie Wright as Ron’s sister Ginny who makes the most subtle and memorable impact…her time is to come.”
- Sunday Mirror [2007]

“However, for this installment, Ron’s sister Ginny (Bonnie Wright) makes the most impact among the rest of Harry’s friends as she exudes a certain teenage glow.”
- Film Works [2007]

“I liked Bonnie Wright just fine before, but she’s really coming into her own as Ginny Weasley, now that she’s getting more screen time.”
- Sequential Tart [2007]

Bonnie comes across as a pleasant, unstarry, level-headed girl.
- ES Magazine [2009]

Others

“She’s a darling, beautiful young girl. And a real sweetheart.”
- Melissa Anelli (TLC.org) [2005]

“Bonnie Wright, though the youngest, is so very poised and deliberate that she seems older – and it all happens in her eyes. She has got the most gorgeous pair of eyes. We’re told by John that she rarely moves, when she is on set being filmed. She is very still, very focused, and has a habit of using just her eyes to reflect what is going through her mind – which, on film, is often all that is required. It was similar in the interview; she paused after questions, looked at Melissa with intent, and then, when she was ready, she gave answers. But for all her poise, she is still a young girl, and every once in a while a question got her smiling before she could stop herself. She loves the end of book five, when Ginny gets to go with everyone. So do we, Bonnie. So do we.”
- Arabella (TLC.org) [2005]

“…I’ll end at the moment with Emma Watson & Bonnie Wright, what truly lovely girls, I’d never met them before, they were with all their friends and although not asked they each individually came over, chatted and signed some items, taking the time to make everyone happy before re-joining the party, made the childrens’ evening.”
- HP4U.co.uk [2005]

But it was the young Harry Potter girls who really got my attention. Their quirky and innovative style made them a stand out from the crowd: Bonnie Wright opted for a retro print full skirt, black tights, a white blouse and her favourite wooden clog-style heels. While Katie Leung choose to add a black bubble skirt to a blue satin blouse complete with pussy bow tie. In fashion, it’s certainly refreshing to see such personality shine through someone’s clothing, especially in younger women. Well done girls!
- CatWalkQueen.Tv (Fashion Critics) [2007]

Bonnie was absolutely lovely. While Rupert was doing press, I noticed that Bonnie was in the middle of the red carpet, surrounded by Rupert’s siblings, completely unnoticed by everyone. I called her and she came to us and signed a lot of autographs for our little group, before leaving to pose for photographs. She was really nice, and seemed very humble. She didn’t look for any attention, but when we called her, she came straight away.
- Neve (EW.net) at the National Movie Awards [2007]
